Who Is Jesus Christ, Really?
Many people sadly have the wrong image of Him!
Jeremiah 29:11 “ For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
Before He was ever called ‘Jesus Christ’ by mankind, He always existed. Scripture tells us that he has a Sonship to His Father, God Almighty.
He, also, is God Almighty — equal to the Father. They love each other completely, together with the All-Powerful Holy Spirit.
Jesus is also the Creator of the Universe, all that is and all mankind. Hebrews also tells us He continues to hold all things together: Jesus “upholds the universe by the Word of His Power.” Hebrews 1:3
He made us for Himself. We are each unique, like snowflakes. He’s not into making clones! Nor puppets, nor robots for that matter.
His plan included providing for everything He knew would happen.
He knew we would sin, so from the beginning He planned to sacrifice Himself in our place so that we would not be lost from Him. He loves us that much, beyond what we can understand from a human perspective.
The Father also loves us that much. Together they agreed on the plan for our salvation. From before the beginning of the world, that plan was already in place.
In the fullness of time, the Almighty Creator God, who we call Jesus Christ, fashioned a human body for Himself through the Holy Spirit overshadowing Mary. His human body began to grow in her womb without the benefit of any Y chromosome or human father. We know this through DNA results from the blood found on the Shroud of Turin.
So Almighty Eternal God climbed into a human body and lived here with us for 33 years for the express purpose of providing a way for our salvation from the penalty of sin. The words of the hymn “Amazing Love” come to my mind when I think about this:
“Amazing Love, how can it be? That thou my God should die for me?”
Have you ever heard of another god or entity that claims to have suffered and died for its followers? I haven’t. It’s usually the other way around. They want followers to suffer and pay them homage. And never do they claim to love them.
We have a God who lived as one of us. We can know for a for a fact, that He understands us, our feelings, our humanness.
So how do we get that personal relationship with Him?
We become children of God by accepting Jesus’ sacrifice of Himself in our place for our guilty sins. We accept His plan to save us to Himself. We accept the fact that “He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) “We love Him because He first loved us.”
God is a God of love. How wonderful when you think about it! There is no fear of death anymore because His perfect, self-sacrificing love surrounds us and rescues us from darkness, sin, and hell itself.
Once you have this foundation of a relationship with your Creator Savior, you have what life is all about. You have a connection with the One who made you for Himself! For a beautiful friendship with Himself.
He will never force you or coerce you into it. Then it would not be true love.
Free will is absolutely a must for this relationship to mean what it needs to mean. To be a love freely given on both sides.
This is the way we need to see and understand Jesus Christ. He is the Living, Eternal, Almighty God who climbed out of eternity (a place) into a human body at one point, and into the River of Time, to stay with us for 33 years. And then this Good Shepherd laid down his life for us, his sheep, to rescue us.
Amazing love! How can we not love this tender, incredible, vast, eternal Being who made us out of love, and saved us for love?
